I am the head of Business Development Department where I direct the firm’s business development strategy and service operations in line with the Firms Mission and Vision. I ensure that the firm adopts a cohesive approach to business development and client relationship management firm wide; develop and implement tactics for business opportunity, co-ordination and action. Moreover, I monitor client satisfaction levels, addressing customer complaints by continually guiding the team to deliver on the Customer Service Promise.

My main practice areas are commercial litigation and arbitration. I have been involved in preparation, research and prosecution of cases in all courts including the Court of Appeal. Furthermore, I am skilled in dispute resolution strategies. I have acted for leading banks and I have extensive experience in banking and Financial Litigation, mortgage realizations, recoveries and debt collections.

I have conducted consulting for International corporations as well as international law firms on the legal process and judicial proceedings in Kenya and substantive laws of Kenya. Indeed, these firms have also outsourced for litigation research especially in corporate law and shareholder disputes. These efforts have alsoincorporated winding up related to foreign jurisdictions proceedings in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tanzania and South Africa.

Finally, I have acted on behalf of private developers in Environmental and Infrastructural Legislative Litigation. I also have experience in building and construction law and related litigation. This is enhanced by my deep appreciation of the business regulatory frame work in Kenya which has enabled me to routinely advise financial corporations on all forms of commercial and dispute resolution.

My main area of practice is corporate law. I advise both local and foreign investors in legal compliance and licensing issues in diverse sectors. This also involves advising such clients in intellectual property (IP) rights including registration thereof, pension, labor and employment matters including obtaining work permits and other immigration documents for their expatriate employees.

I have also been involved in setting up and administration of trusts and charitable organizations like NGOs, foundations, religious organizations, charitable trusts, societies and other not-for profit organizations, for both local and International clients. I have a good grasp on conveyancing, corporate and commercial law transactions. I have been involved in setting up of local business operations of various local and international clients especially in real estate development, hotel and tourism, telecommunication, food, energy and agricultural sectors. Furthermore, I provide advisory services regarding labor and employment matters including obtaining work permits and other immigration documents for clients.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Team Leader – Commercial Law Department

I handle and supervise complex commercial transactions involving corporate banking securization, project financing, debt rescheduling for our banks, financial institutions and other corporate customers. This unit also deals with corporate restructuring, share deals, buy-outs and investment transactions and capital market transactions involving such clients. As a licensed company secretary, I assist such clients in corporate governance issues, amendment and interpretation of their constituent documents, preparation of board minutes and resolutions as well as filling of various statutory returns on their behalf. The unit is also charged with the responsibility of handling complex banking transactions for our bank clients. I am also involved in providing tax advice to both local and International clients, as well as advising them on tax compliance issues. The Unit is also involved in representing clients in tax disputes before local committees, tax tribunal and normal courts of law.

When I joined form one, on one of my many trips to school I came across expansive pieces of land which were said to belong to few wealthy individuals. I struggled to understand how so much land could belong to only few people when the rest of the community remained with very little land to their name.

During my second year in ‘O’ levels, I raised the same issues with the history teacher. My teacher advised me that it was possible to challenge land ownership where one had questions as to how that land was acquired, by approaching the relevant legal procedure in our judicial system. When I finally join the University of Nairobi to pursue my undergraduate studies for the Bachelors of Law Degree, I had a strong determination, to represent people in a court of law and engage judicial offices (read) judges and magistrates in the legal language. That brief summarizes my long story and passion for litigation.

Human beings are in constant pursuit of dreams. Our dreams are represented in the things we do, and perhaps, in the people we interact with.
One of my friend’s dreams is to own and manage the biggest record label company in Kenya. I recently advised him on the incorporation and organization of his film and audio production companies to achieve legal separateness, tax effectiveness and legal compliance. I also recall the case of one reverent priest who sought legal counsel on the incorporation of a trust which is now the corporate entity for his ministry. He is living his dream, a calling to evangelize. I am a corporate lawyer and the team leader for the firm’s Business and Corporate Organizations Services at the City Centre Branch.

Another friend has actualized his dream of owning a multi unit property at the heart of the capital city. We recently celebrated as he unveiled his epitome of many years of hard work. I provided him with legal counsel in the purchase of the land and the sale of the various units, a process commonly known as conveyancing. I have expertise in property law and have handled various complex transactions. I also head various client specialization service teams.
